Missed connection compensation

On one booking, a missed connection is judged by how late you reached your final destination: three hours or more is owed £220, £350 or £520 a passenger. Put your first and last airports on the pass, not the connection.

What counts

  • One booking: the delay at your final destination, and the distance from your first airport to your last.
  • Being late into the connecting airport doesn’t count on its own.
  • Separate bookings: no right to compensation for the missed connection, though each flight keeps its own rights.

From the CAA’s guidance on delays, read 8 November 2026.

Questions

Do I get compensation if a delay made me miss my connecting flight?

Yes, if both flights were on one booking and you reached your final destination three hours or more late. The CAA says the distance from your first airport to your last sets the amount, and how late you got to the connecting airport doesn’t count.

What if I booked the two flights separately?

The CAA says self-transfer journeys on separate bookings carry no statutory right to care, compensation or onward transport for the missed connection, though each flight keeps its own rights.

Which distance do I use?

From the first airport to the last on the booking, measured on the great circle. Put those two airports on the pass and it measures it.
